Australia holds the title of fourth highest food waster in the world. We need a call to action across governments, industry, retailers, and consumers to radically drive change. It’s up to all of us to act now and work together against this crisis.

Across the country, over 7.3 million tonnes of food was wasted across the supply and consumption chain in 2016. Of this waste, 31 per cent was from primary production and 25 per cent from manufacturing. However, the biggest wasters are consumer households contributing 34 per cent of the country’s food waste!

The 2019 Food Waste Report shows that the total annual spend on food waste has hit a whopping $10.1 billion dollars! This is up from $8.9 billion in 2018.
