A recent career opportunity with Rabobank Mount Gambier integrates two of Nick Tarca’s greatest passions, agriculture and banking, and affords the bright young talent an opportunity to lead the region’s future farmers.
Having grown up on a sheep, beef, cropping and irrigation property in the Frances district, north east of Naracoorte, Nick said he realised early on that his destiny lay in agriculture – but not necessarily on the family farm.
Previously, Nick dabbled in a number of rural industries including ag science, farm labour and eventually livestock management, yet the myriad opportunity a career in rural banking continued to appeal and in 2016 he completed an advanced diploma at Marcus Oldham in anticipation.
“I came off a farm with a keen interest in finance so agri-banking made so much sense – it offers an opportunity to remain heavily involved in the growth of Australian agriculture, help farmers grow, and be engaged and involved in their major decision making,” he said.
Nick has worked locally in banking for the past four years, and didn’t hesitate when the role with Rabobank presented itself.
“Rabobank’s sole focus is on agriculture, and is tailored to the needs of farmers – everything is aligned to helping a farm business grow, which is in direct keeping with my own aspirations,” Nick said.
“I have a real desire to work with farmers for genuine long-term management and growth – and Rabo represents the perfect opportunity to build and nurture these client relationships.”
Having lived in Mount Gambier for the past four years, he said it was an exciting time to be working in agriculture in the region, with his role as a Rural Manager coinciding with a wider inter-generational transfer across many local farming families.
“In a way it feels like fortuitous timing, there are many young farmers stepping up, and as a young Rural Manager it’s a very exciting time to be venturing on this journey together with the next generation of local farmers,” he said.
The global expertise and knowledge sharing capabilities within Rabobank – not to mention the local branch – were also key features of the bank Nick was looking forward to tapping into.

A keen footy player, Nick said there was a lot to love about his adopted hometown - including its friendly people, buoyant industry and quality, productive farmland.
