A bank with a clear focus on people, rather than business is what caught the attention of Jessica Ryan when researching future career options – ultimately inspiring her to apply for Rabobank’s Rabo Tertiary Pathways Scholarship.

“Once I started looking at different banks it was clear that Rabobank was different, it appears to be more genuine in supporting farmers and people, and as a farmer, this was very appealing to me.”

Jessica is one of seven graduates successful in gaining a $15,000 Rabo Tertiary Pathways Scholarship, which provides her with the opportunity to intern at Rabobank’s Wagga Wagga branch under the mentorship of Megan Galloway.

She will also complete a research project focused on exploring sheep traceability, supported by access to Rabobank’s vast resources of analysts and market insights.

Jessica, from Harden, NSW,  is currently completing a Bachelor of Agriculture Business Management at Charles Sturt University, and has spent her lifetime working on farms.

Having dabbled with a number of career options – Jessica previously completed a work placement at Riverina Wool Testers – she has a keen interest in marketing and communications.

“I’m excited by the idea of being able to communicate new and better ways to undertake tasks on the farm and instil trust in local farmers.”

“This is of high interest moving forward into my career, and something I think Rabobank does exceptionally well.”

In addition to the support Jessica will receive completing her research topic, and discovering first-hand career options within Rabobank, Jessica believed the application process proved equally valuable.

“I found the interview stages of the selection process a great learning curve, and good practice moving forward as I start applying for grad jobs. The interview challenged me to think outside the box and a take a risk.”

She was also grateful for the unique opportunity to explore a broad cross-section of career paths within the sector, and reflect on what drives her.

“There is so much happening in the ag space, and I’m really excited to be part of it. This scholarship has really helped me identify various jobs in agribusiness, and develop a deeper understanding of my own interests post university.”
