Championing the Angus beef industry, on farm and globally

The Munro family helped pioneer northern NSW’s cattle industry, and today, almost a century on from the establishment of the family’s Booroomooka Angus Stud, Sinclair Munro remains unwavering in his commitment to the Angus breed.

The family’s relationship with Rabobank’s Armidale branch has enjoyed a similarly successful tenure, with the team proudly supporting Sinclair – President of Angus Australia – and his fellow producers at the World Angus Forum.

A global gathering for the World Angus Forum

There have only been two past World Angus Forums held in Australia, the last one was in 1997, and it’s an event Sinclair believes delivers tremendous learning opportunities and collaboration across the supply chain.

“With a program featuring engaging presenters and strategic insights, it’s an event that provides valuable contributions to the Angus sector and strengthens industry discussions,” Sinclair says.

“The World Angus Forum is an important opportunity to gather the industry to celebrate our achievements, and to look at ways to improve so that we’re still thriving in another 30 years.”

The AngusEXPO will visit Tamworth on May 3 and 4, followed by the World Angus Forum in Brisbane on May 7 and 8.

Sinclair believes Rabobank’s support will make for an even stronger event, providing valuable insights, and adding further opportunity to gather and learn.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the RaboTruck at Tamworth. It travels across Australia and again demonstrates Rabobank’s commitment to supporting rural and regional communities – it brings knowledge, networks and events to our door, rather than us having to go to the city.”

Strong rural expertise leads local industry

Rabobank’s Armidale Area Manager, Scott Neilson, is equally proud to be contributing to a strong World Angus Forum, and vibrant local agricultural  sector. With a team comprised of consistent and familiar local faces, Scott reflects that the strength behind the Armidale branch is its longevity, expertise, and cohesion.

“Everyone in the team, with the exception of myself, has an agricultural background, and this first-hand farming perspective provides a unique empathy, and a genuine desire to do right by our clients.”

“Whether it’s helping ensure relationships are maintained during succession, or helping a grazier purchase additional land, our team understand the complexities of rural businesses, and we all want to see the best outcome achieved.”

Scott, who made a bold tree change in 2012 – leaving behind a financial services trading career in Sydney for the Armidale lifestyle, says the whole team is looking forward to being on the ground at the World Angus Forum.

He suggests another event highlight will be prominent Armidale breeder Greg Chappell of Dulverton Angus Stud sharing his learnings during a ‘Cattle Chats’ session on the RaboTruck.

“The New England region is renowned for quality cattle production, and we’re looking forward to supporting clients such as Sinclair, Greg and the wider industry.”

“Any time you can bring high quality producers together to hear each other’s stories, and have purposeful engagement, is so valuable,” Scott says.

Leading through example

Having settled in the Bingara district in 1858, later establishing their Angus stud in 1926, Sinclair is proud to be continuing the family’s legacy, and credits four key values that have underpinned the Munro family’s strong grazing history.

“Our business has been built on the foundation of integrity, commitment, reliability and innovation, and as such we align ourselves with organisations which share these core values, of which Rabobank is one.”

“We’ve been committed to this business since 1858, and we’re continually reassured by Rabobank’s ongoing support of our business – in both the good times and the challenging – and its investment in our communities and industry.”

Whether it’s supplying genetics or bulls, a focus on reliability and integrity also contribute to Booroomooka Angus’ strong reputation, and its these same values that Sinclair admires in his Rural Manager, Kyle McDonald.

“If ever I need insights or information, I know that Rabobank is a reliable source of knowledge, and we’ve had a long association with managers, including Kyle, whose integrity is second-to-none.”

Rich in history, yet with a firm eye on the future, the Munro family embraces innovation, and events such as the World Angus Forum, which are valuable opportunities to drive the industry forward.
