Family and Domestic Violence

Family and domestic violence is a whole community issue and requires the collective efforts of government, communities, and the corporate sector, including banks, to respond to the challenges.

It is important to remember that Family and Domestic Violence is not just physical and sexual violence, but includes threatening and coercive behaviour, emotional, psychological, or financial abuse. It can happen to anyone, in any kind of relationship, and can cause someone to live with uncertainty and fear.

When we become aware, we will support your safe access to banking. We may also refer you to local or national support services depending on your circumstances. Below is information on support services available to you:

  • Lifeline- are a national charity providing all Australians experiencing emotional distress with access to 24 hour crisis support and suicide prevention services. They exist so that no person in Australia has to face their darkest moments alone. They can be contacted on 13 11 14 or by chat or text. For more information go to https://www.lifeline.org.au.

  • Legal Aid - Can provide advice on intervention orders, family law, financial counselling, and other general civil law. Find a legal aid commission at https://www.nationallegalaid.org/
  • Financial Abuse Legal Service (FALS) - this service is run by the Consumer Credit Legal Service . They support women experiencing intimate partner financial abuse in connection with consumer credit and debt, as well as Australian Consumer Law matters. Please refer to the flyer here.
